This is a beginner’s course that aims to give the new spreadsheet user a thorough grounding in the basics of creating and working with spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel 2013. Particular emphasis is placed on developing accurate and well-designed spreadsheets employing sound design and documentation principles.

Learning outcomes

Training is customised to meet the specific needs of the participants and may include:

  • navigating your way around Microsoft Excel 2013
  • creating and working with a new workbook
  • opening and navigating within workbooks and worksheets
  • understanding and working with ranges in a worksheet
  • understanding, creating and working with formulas and functions used to perform calculations
  • using font formatting techniques to greatly enhance the look of a worksheet
  • altering the layout of a worksheet
  • sorting and filtering data in a worksheet
  • printing your workbook data
  • creating effective charts in Microsoft Excel
  • obtaining help for Excel whenever you need it
  • understanding points to consider to avoid problems in your worksheets
